DISCOMATE RECORDS / DSP-5015

ECMを代表するアメリカ出身のギタリスト、ジョンアバークロンビー。

本作は日本のレーベル「DISCOMATE RECORDS」に残した1979年作。ちょうどRichie Beirachとのカルテットを組んでいた時期でECMの1133番と1164番の間に録音されている。アバークロンビー本人は「ECMプレゼンツ・スーパー・ギター・セッション」（メセニーやジスモンチも初来日）というコンサートのため初来日した後、ロサンゼルスに向かいレコーディングしている。

ギタートリオ編成による、彼にしてはめずらしく全曲スタンダード曲集。

アバークロンビー史上最もアグレッシブな演奏の数々が聴ける魅力的な作品だ。全曲カヴァーにもかかわらず自由度全開で、暴れまくってる。もちろんECM盤同様クールで知的だが、、、めっちゃ熱い。A1、A3、B3はスピード感あふれる怒濤の早弾きに圧倒。たぶん未CD化。

ちなみに同内容のアメリカ盤「Straight Flight」というタイトルも存在する。ジャケット裏に「BY DISCOMATE RECORDS CO. LTD OF JAPAN」と記載されているので、おそらく日本盤の方が先にリリースされたと思われる。
